Due to GCC severe problem in code generation design, OpenCOBOL cannot work with GCC on Power CPU. GCC will simply unable to compile any reasonably large program. This version requires IBM C compiler (xlc). OC was compiled using IBM XL C/C++ for AIX, V11.1 (5724-X13) Version: 11.01.0000.0005, but of course it might be possible that programs generated by OC will be okay with prior versions. Anyway, IBM C for AIX is not that expensive.
You can download OpenCOBOL AIX 6.1 64-bit binaries, which include MPIR version 2.2.1, and VBISAM 2.0.
